Today, Loloy Reyes and I had the opportunity to participate and represent the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (FACCGH) in the Leaders’ Roundtable (organized and sponsored by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (Iaccgh) with fellow chamber leaders, local government officials , and representatives of the Department of Economic Equity and Opportunity. The forum reaffirmed how essential collaboration is key to advancing trade and strengthening the economic future of Houston.
As one of the most diverse and globally connected cities in the country, Houston thrives when public and private sector leaders come together with intention. The dialogue created a space for us to align priorities, openly discuss regulatory and infrastructure challenges, and explore new pathways for business growth and investment.
The roundtable discussion brought forth the value of shared perspective with regards to real-time needs and opportunities facing our business communities. Commissioner Briones highlighted Houston’s priority programs while representatives from DEEO provided insights to resources, short and long-term plans, particularly in advancing equitable access to economic opportunities.
More than just a conversation, the roundtable served as a catalyst for action—reinforcing that through continued dialogue, partnership, and collaboration, we can drive competitiveness, support our small and medium enterprises, attract global investment, and ensure inclusive, sustainable growth for the Houston community.
Dialogue with Diplomats
BRIDGE MADE:
Attending the “Dialogue with Diplomats” today (sponsored by UNA-Houston and the Houston Consular Corps) was both insightful and timely. The gathering brought together civic and business leaders, government representatives, and members of Houston’s diplomatic community—each offering a unique perspective on the role of diplomacy in an increasingly interconnected world.
What stood out most was the shared recognition that diplomacy is no longer confined to formal state-to-state interactions. It now thrives in spaces where diverse sectors converge—where public service, private enterprise, and civil society collaborate. This kind of dialogue reinforces that effective diplomacy is built not only on policy, but on relationships, mutual respect, and a willingness to listen.
The discussions underscored the importance of open and constructive dialogue in addressing today’s complex global challenges. Whether in trade, security, or cultural exchange, it is through sustained engagement that trust is built and meaningful partnerships are formed.
Events like this remind us that diplomacy is a collective responsibility. When leaders from different sectors come together with a shared purpose, they create opportunities not just for conversation, but for collaboration and lasting impact.
US & Philippines Partner on Massive Luzon Economic Corridor

Gia is the first product of the FACCGH business incubator for young people. She was only 12 when she started. She was tending a booth for her parents — selling native bags. East Meets West Global Business Conference: A Resounding Success
(Orlando, FL; June 19-22, 2025)
The Federation of Philippine American Chambers of Commerce (FPACC) successfully concluded its highly anticipated East Meets West FPACC Global Business Conference, held from June 19 to 22, 2025, at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Florida.
Under the theme “Breaking Barriers, Building Global Partnerships,” the four-day event brought together global entrepreneurs, corporate executives, government officials, and thought leaders to strengthen ties between the East and the West. Attendees engaged in high-level discussions (on the future of globalization, trade, tourism, healrh, AI technology and cottage industries among indigenous peoples), networking opportunities, and collaborative sessions that showcased cross-border innovation and cultural diplomacy.
The conference provided participants with opportunities to expand their global business footprint, forming strategic connections with partners from the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Europe, and the Philippines. FPACC’s platform facilitated the exchange of ideas and initiatives aimed at opening new markets and promoting mutual prosperity.
Attendees also celebrated the cultural significance of the East-West connection, recalling the historic 1565 Manila-Acapulco Galleon route that marked one of the earliest examples of global trade between Asia and the Americas.
The event was hailed as a major success, applauded for its engaging program, hospitality, and impactful discussions.
FPACC reaffirmed its commitment to fostering international partnerships and economic empowerment among Filipino American communities.

**The Filipino-American community of Texas was ably represented by Dr. Noemi Frias, president of the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston – F A C C G H and Dr. Marylou Gold Oro, FACCGH Board of Director for Business Development. **Dr. Frias was re-elected as FPACC National Secretary (2025-2027) at the elections held during the event.

You’ve come a long way. Loloy Reyes and I are grateful to have witnessed your journey from the get-go, which started with a leap of faith and one man’s resolve to make a difference.
One Philippines is your legacy, Bhong Zausa, and no one can change its history. As I said in my speech, most especially to your son, JR, who is now the general manager of your paper, “ Media is a double-edged sword—capable of informing, educating, and uniting, but it is also capable of misleading, spreading lies, and dividing. Thus, ethical journalism and thoughtful regulation are necessary for the media to play a central role in shaping how we think, communicate, and understand the world around us.”
